DerbyPortland three-piece pop outfit Derby, at long last, released their second full-length “Posters Fade” at a June 6th Wonder Ballroom show that was nothing short of a rock & roll triumph. They were joined by many friends both on-stage and in the crowd, and kept their energy high for a set that outlasted some feature-length films.

They came into the KPSU studio a couple of weeks later to perform an acoustic set, and then talked with me about their music.

Here’s the setlist:

Only What She’s Selling
Stumps
If Ever There’s a Reason
As My Own
Don’t Feed the Bear

Derby are playing this Friday, July 9th at The Hawthorne Theater with Phantom Planet, and August 2nd at The Someday Lounge with The Dimes, Oh Darling and Dominic Castillo & the Rock Savants.

There’s a few bands that I’ve watched over the years, waiting patiently (or maybe not-so-patiently) to put out new material. One of those has been Tea for Julie, a Portland four-piece who skillfully draws on the same music that is so hard-wired in my brain that even if they weren’t very good, it would still be impossible for me not to like them. But they are good, incredible, in fact.

Their second album, The Sense in Tying Knots, is out next week, and their release party for it is Wednesday, June 25 at the Doug Fir, along with friends The Turn-Ons and Crosstide. The band graciously agreed to come play in the studio, and you can listen to the results for yourself.

Playlist:

Tea for Julie - Hello - Division (2004)
Tea for Julie - I was of You - The Sense in Tying Knots

TFJ live set:
Far off Sun
The Meantime
Scape
And Winter Calls
Pollyanna

Tea for Julie - Get Home - The Sense in Tying Knots

TFJ Interview

The Turn-Ons - Crystalize - Curse (download album for FREE or self-defined price here!)
Crosstide - Empathy - Life as a Spectator

Also, I’m hosting another Portland band tonight, Derby, who will be playing an acoustic set. I’ll post it in the next couple of days.
