Best videos of 2010 - Category: Cleverest Choreography
One development in reality TV I’m really thankful for is So You Think You Can Dance? Because really, anyone can sing, but learning how to dance takes years of dedication, so when someone makes it onto that show, they really deserve to be there and show off their craft.
Still, not everything is about technical perfection. Style counts, wit does too. These videos all get major points in those categories.
!!! - Jamie, My Intentions are Bass (taken from Strange Weather, Isn’t It?)
You may be disappointed to learn that, despite their natural on-screen chemistry, the girl in the video isn’t Nic Offer’s girlfriend, and isn’t even named Jamie, but rather is actress Kristel Kovner. But then you realize it means she might be available!!!
Also, is that a TIME CUBE on those paper portals? Because that would totally explain how they work like that.
We Have Band - Divisive (taken from WHB)
I think I may have figured out what my curling team’s uniforms will look like.
Foxy Shazam - Unstoppable (taken from Foxy Shazam)
This is a nice curling uniform option too, though only if we can also have the freckle makeup, Freddy Mercurial charisma and impossible moves.
Hey Marseilles - Rio (taken from To Travels & Trunks)
This is how to get by with a little help from your friends.
The xx - Islands (taken from XX)
Mod take on Groundhog Day for the 140 character set.
Fang Island - Daisy (taken from Fang Island)
You want to film some AMAZINGLY dreamy choreography while you yourself are dancing in a Ronald Reagan mask and suit? All I can say to you is “vaya con Dios,” my friend.
OK Go - White Knuckles (taken from Of the Blue Colour of the Sky)
This monumental achievement is so clever that I can’t think of anything clever to say about it. I’m one Lego, and this is the Empire State Building.
Wait, did that count?
OK Go - This Too Shall Pass (marching band version) (taken from Of the Blue Colour of the Sky)
Obviously, OK Go has done more this year than any other band to advance the art of the music video. This one was the first from their latest album, and it’s still my favorite. It’s an anthem for these tough times, the lyrics are benevolent encouragement to keep hopeful, and the choice to release a marching band arrangement that doesn’t take itself too seriously is such a generous choice by the band.
The way the video unfolds, it gives the viewer a sense of magic in the world, that despite all the things going wrong, anything is still possible. Also, and this may be particulus because I played in marching band, but I feel a physical change happen in me when I watch this.

There’s more still on the way…
